August 17, 2007

Well here it is on Friday, we went to Montserrat today. All I can say WOW! What an amazing spectacular, spiritual place. I was certainly moved. We spent all day there. Our day started at 8:45 on the Metro. We got on the Montserrat train and took the aerial cable car up. We rented audiofones but really it was unneccessary.

We did take the funicular (small railway car up and down the slope to visit the Black Madonna's origins. The name is a misnomer as the reason she is called that is because people believed that over the years of burning candles, that the fumes turned her black. Not true, according to a small museum, testing validated that it wasn't smoke that turned her from her original white but lead poisening from the lead paint on her. Sometime over the 13th century she started turning brown. So they eventually painted her brown. Then as the centuries continued, she was turning darker so the decision was made to paint her black. Which she now is. Still, the cathedral is amazing. We stood in line for about 50 minutes and we finally climbed and all three of us, Ken, Christie and myself touched the orb and I said a quick prayer for my friend who passed away.

Later, we walked a bit up the mountain. Saw some AMAZING panoramic views and did some slight hikes. I even got to post some postcards!

The trip was great. I will post some more later. We had a small problem trying to get our friend, Pam to Barcelona thanks to Mother Nature. That's another story in itself.

Anyway, as of now, she is set to come in on Sunday, 1 day late but at least she's going to be here. Hooray. Talk to you all later.
